Lipper International

Lipper International originally started as Lipper & Mann and became organized in April 1946 as an importer of fine glass & ceramic items. These items were imported from Czechoslovakia and other European countries. Lipper and Mann had a showroom on the seventh floor at 225 Fifth Avenue, New York. Mr. Lipper, Mr. Mann and several sales representatives sold merchandise to leading department stores, independent shops, jewelry stores and home furnishing stores. Merchandise was shipped from overseas factories to our warehouse at East 29th street, New York. Lipper International began importing items from Japan in 1947 that included figurines, porcelain tea cups & saucers, tea kettles and dinnerware sets in porcelain, earthenware and other tableware serving items. The Blue Danube pattern of fine translucent porcelain dinnerware, which is under-glazed decorated, was developed in 1951. Blue Danube was distributed in the United States, Canada, Central America and parts of Europe. In addition, six patterns of genuine stoneware made in Japan were produced from 1952 – 1968. In October, 1963, Mr. Lipper purchased full interest of the company from Mr. Mann and the corporate name was changed to Lipper International, Inc. The warehouse at the time was located at 22nd and 3rd Avenue and employed a warehouse manager, a dozen warehouse workers and half a dozen bookkeepers. Lipper International added a line of 18/8 stainless steel serving accessories such as trays, covered sugar & creamers, gravy boats, chafing dishes and became the largest importer of fondue sets in 1969. Lipper International started to import wooden tabletop items & wooden serving accessories from the Philippines in 1967. In 1970, Lipper International developed a complete line of woodenware products consisting of tableware, salad bowls, storage items, pantry-ware and home organization items made of beechwood from Thailand. These collections are continually refined and expanded. Wooden items made from solid oak and solid birchwood from the Republic of China have also been added to the selection. In October of 1981 Lipper International purchased a 75,000 square foot building in Wallingford, Connecticut and moved their corporate office and warehouse to this location. Presently they have a staff of over 50 sales representatives selling their wares in the United States, Canada and Central and South America.
